STEM OUTREACH

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA

The Boys and Girls Club was established in 1860 and has been a long-running after-school program for disadvantaged youth all across the United States. Their motto is "To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens."

During the summer of 2019, Engineers Without Borders at UC Irvine began a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Central Orange Coast. The goal of this partnership is to provide low-income students with exposure to STEM and spark their interest in STEM career paths. Whether they decide to continue down an engineering route or not, they will form a clearer understanding of what they would like to pursue with the guidance of EWB-UCI mentors.

Our team is currently working on the development of a detailed engineering-based curriculum that will be implemented at the Boys and Girls Club. We hope to build up a solid partnership and continue bringing new ideas and projects to the students.
